Househunting - Resale HDB

Warning: Blogger's understanding only.. remember this blog is NOT a go-to-website for this kind of information.
I have not gone down the HDB route before, so it is a learning journey for me, too.

So. straight from the HDB website FAQ page:-

Tampines Courters have 'technically' disposed of their private property already with the sale to Sim Lian. I prefer to wait until the sale is on more solid ground, ie after the STB Approval and even as far ahead as when the sales proceeds are in my bank account. By then, the new HDB transaction time (see Today article above) will allow me to buy even faster than now.... if I plan to buy HDB.. which I don't.

After I buy a resale HDB can I then buy a private property?

Looks like I will have to wait  5 years to satisfy the MOP condition...... but at least I get to keep both properties if I continue to stay in the HDB. No sneaking off to live in the condo.

Am I wrong?

  1. By the time we get the money even hdb prices would have gone up as thousands of downgraders from hudc enbloc are buying the flats. Dun believe go & monitor the market & see if yr favorite shortlisted units, especially in popular locations like serangoon & tampines all got takened up one by one. Sellers knows the market and there it's sellers' market and jacking up their prices !

  2. hi blogger,...does this mean your next abode will be a resale HDB flat?...if it is, then it will be really good news for all,..at least there is no collective sale for HDB flats,..SERS maybe but no collective sale. With SERS, residents dont have a chance to say "No!"...All are lessees only. that said, i think many will probably choose a resale hdb flat,...500K fully paid and still have 1.2mil to invest in a nice little condo to collect rent,..at least thats the plan but i guess got to wait a while longer until the objector drama is over...

    1. That's a nice plan - but I shall be going for a resale private all the same. My husband needs gardening space...

    2. Hdb owners cannot buy private properties unless overseas or commercial properties.

    3. Yes they can buy any numbers of pte properties but must sell their hdb flats without 6 mths. Unless they change their rules, this is what I understand.

    4. @2.3 That is only for resale flat application before 30 August 2010. MOP for resale flats bought after that date is 5 years as well.

    1. Dear itshometome, please don't close the comments again because of all these silly people. Their vile comments are just cheap attempts to censor people who do not share their opinions. Your blog is great and informative!

    2. I suggest you simply don't approve these off topic comments. It's such a waste of website space.

    3. Blogger, I disagree with those who ask you to censor posts.

Just witness 2 funerals not long ago. Sad that these elderies or sick neighbours are not able to enjoy fruits of their labour. Let's have empathy and a heart. Money is not everything in life.

I think you should just let all posting thru. Those who oppose you also have a voice to speak too even though you deemed as negative. Let's hear them out.

The good thing of FB is they don't censor any posting - true spirit of democracy. Reason people come here is not because yr blog is better than FB but because people can post under anonymity

    4. There's plenty more where that came from, this one came with an actual curse, though, which I thought amusing :P

    5. Any FB page creator can ban people and delete comments as he pleases. No censorship on FB is a myth.

    6. Yes, anyone can open a Facebook account with a fake name which is the same as being anonymous. If I used a name..Sarah White...for example, that would not raise any red flags and I could happily comment away under that name. Using real names only on FB is also a myth.

  4. Before 2013 hdb owners are allowed to own both pte & hdb property but not now. Suggest u call hdb hotline to confirm in case you mislead people unitentionaly & get them in trouble.

  5. Depends on when he bought the HDB resale. If after August 2010 there will be 5 years MOP regardless of whether it's subsidized or not.

  9. Everyone should just chill until we get STB's approval. I have a few property agent friends who have said that at least 6 tampines court residents have put down their 1% or $1000 to have the option to purchase only to pull out because of the objections. So just sit tight and wait for STB to approve the sale, dont throw your money away like that.
